REVIEW: GILBERTO VÉLEZ – LA RUMBA Y YO

We at NewGenSalsa are happy to present this new production “La Rumba Y Yo” by Gilberto Vélez who is a singer from the East Coast Salsa Scene. Gilberto has recorded 4 CDs during his career. I believe that “La Rumba y Yo” will take him to the next level in his musical career.

This production features 4 time grammy winner Oscar Hernandez who produced and arranged all the songs and also is the Musical Director and Pianist. The CD has 8 excellent tracks which were made with the dancers and Salsa lovers in mind. It’s been awhile since I’ve heard a production that every track Swings. No fillers here and believe me when I say you won’t be able to sit still while listening.

I have no doubt that the Salsa community will embrace this production. DJs will play most of the tracks during peak hours at their Clubs. It’s not often that you purchase a CD and every song is a dance floor banger. Absolutely no fillers here. Only Swing and as we like to say Mazacote.

I have provided one of many favorites for your listening and dancing pleasure Entitled “Cántame Salsa”. This song features the legend Oscar Hernandez doing what he does best.

The title track “La Rumba Y Yo” features Swing Combo’s Legendary percussionist Jeffery “Jazzy” Lopez. Jeffery, has performed with many of the Salsa Legends, E.G. Ray Barretto, Willie Colon and the Spanish Harlem Orchestra just to name a few.

Other tracks such as “Cantame Salsa”, “Guarapo Y Melococha” and “Borinquen” are examples of the Hardcore swing that both Gilbert & Oscar have as Artists who grew up in that tradition. With the song “Desperado”, they prove that a classic pop song can swing as well.

I highly recommend you add this to your Salsa collection.
