Review: Wito Colon “Me Voy”

Fernando Luis Colón Cruz, better known in the salsa community, as Wito Colon has been entertaining audiences for decades in his native Puerto Rico. Wito has been the lead vocalist for orchestras like La Terrifca, Los Bravos De La Costa, and Conjunto La Perla just to name a few.

In 1997, Wito was asked by Don Quique Lucca to become part of a quartet of outstanding singers for the legendary salsa band, Sonora Ponceña.  Wito went on to to became an integral component of the Ponceña legacy for the next 12 years. After a brief stint with Don Perignon y La Puertorriquena, Wito decided it was time to take a shot at a solo career, and in 2009 he finally got the opportunity to lead his own orchestra.

The recently released single “Me Voy”, is proof positive that he is truly one of the best veteran singers in the salsa genre today. We at NewGenSalsa are definitely looking forward to reviewing the full CD and we will keep you posted once it is released.
